Saturday 16th April
With the UK leagues coming to a close for another season picking a winner is only getting harder as only a few teams still have honours to play for. But as always the case, there is often little value in backing these teams as bookies assume they are going to win and offer short prices so we have to look for alternatives a lot of the time.
The Premier League starts it’s penultimate round with struggling Norwich City entertaining Manchester United at Carrow Road. Early kick-offs are tricky so i usually leave them well alone. The other relegation threatened sides are Sunderland and Newcastle United with the former hosting Chelsea and the latter travelling to Aston Villa. Sunderland have it tough but Newcastle should beat relegated Aston Villa considering they are unbeaten in their last 4 and a win would make them favourites for survival! Champions Leicester City will get to celebrate in front of their home fans as Everton travel to the East Midlands in what is now a dead rubber.
In the last round of the Championship season, Burnley will be crowned champions with a win over relegated Charlton at the Valley. The other automatic spot will go to either Middlesbrough or Brighton who face each other in the North East. The other play-off spots and relegation spots are all decided now.
League One comes to a conclusion on Sunday with Burton Albion likely to gain the final automatic spot as they face relegated Doncaster Rovers. The race for the final play-off spot is between Barnsley, Scunthorpe and Gillingham with all 3 facing tough games against Wigan, Sheffield United and Millwall. At the other end the final relegation place will go to one of two rivals in Fleetwood and Blackpool. Fleetwood face bottom club Crewe Alexandra so they should survive.
League Two sees all remaining promotion hopefuls play at home with Accrington hosting Stevenage, Oxford hosting Wycome and Bristol Rovers play Dagenham & Redbridge. All 3 should win which would promote Accrington and Oxford along with champions Northampton.
